Padres activate 3B Headley

Third baseman Chase Headley returned to the San Diego Padres' lineup Wednesday after missing the first 14 games with a fractured left thumb.

Headley broke his left thumb trying to break up a double play in a spring training game against the Los Angeles Dodgers and has been out of action for a total of four weeks, including the final 13 days of spring training.

Headley had a .286 batting average with 31 home runs and led the National League with 115 RBIs.

To make room for Headley on the 25-man roster, the Padres placed center fielder Cameron Maybin on the 15-day disabled list with soreness in his right wrist.
