Nowitzki practices with Mavs, eyes return after Christmas

The SportsXchange

Dallas forward Dirk Nowitzki practiced for the first time Wednesday since he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in October and there's a chance he could playing again after Christmas.

The Mavericks have yet to discuss when he might be cleared for game action, ESPNDallas.com reported, but Nowitzki indicated it might be relatively soon.

"We'll just see how it goes," Nowitzki said, according to The Dallas Morning News. "This is the first day stopping, pushing off, moving. We'll see how it reacts. I'm going to do that a couple times, and do some contact for a while.

"Maybe any time after Christmas, that'll be fun. But there's no real date set. So we'll have to see how the knee responds to the first couple workouts."

Nowitzki had said he would not have a problem coming off the bench and playing 20 to 25 minutes to work his way back.

The Mavericks are 12-13 without Nowitzki heading into Thursday night's game against Miami.
