June 18 (The Sports Xchange) - The Buffalo Sabres have hired longtime NHL coach Terry Murray to assist new coach Dan Bylsma. The team also announced Thursday that it has hired assistant coach Dave Barr. They will join the staff of Bylsma, who was hired May 28. Murray, the uncle of Sabres general manager Tim Murray, spent the last three seasons as coach of the Lehigh Valley/Adirondack Phantoms, and has 15 seasons of experience as an NHL head coach. Barr was as an assistant coach for the New Jersey Devils the past four seasons and has worked as an assistant for the Colorado Avalanche (2008-09) and Minnesota Wild (2010-11). --- The Columbus Blue Jackets have hired longtime minor-league assistant Kenny McCudden as an assistant coach. McCudden spent 16 seasons as the skating and skills coach of the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves. McCudden has worked with NHL players and coached at prospect camps for the Colorado Avalanche, St. Louis Blues and Atlanta Thrashers, and assisted on the U.S. women's team from 2011 to 2014, helping Team USA win silver at the 2014 Winter Olympics. --- Senators coach Dave Cameron signed a two-year extension to remain in Ottawa, general manager Bryan Murray said Thursday. Cameron, 56, who joined the team in 2011 as an assistant, replaced Paul MacLean on Dec. 8 and guided the Senators to the playoffs. Ottawa's wild 23-4-4 finish helped the Senators overcome a 14-point deficit and earn the first wild card into the Stanley Cup playoffs from the Eastern Conference. Ottawa lost to the Montreal Canadiens in six games in the opening round. --- The Boston Bruins signed defenseman Tommy Cross and forward Tyler Randell to one-year, two-way contracts. Cross, a second-round pick of the Bruins in 2007, scored four goals and tallied 18 assists in 54 games for the Providence Bruins last season. Since the 2011-12 season, he has played in 153 games for Providence and notched eight goals and 32 assists. Randell, a sixth-round pick by Boston in 2009, tallied career highs in goals (11) and assists (nine) in 74 games for Providence last season. In 170 games for Providence, he has 17 goals and 16 assists. --- Restricted free agent defenseman Ben Chiarot and the Winnipeg Jets agreed to a two-year contract worth $850,000 per year. Chiarot, 24, played 40 games last season after being recalled Dec. 3, and finished with two goals and six assists.
