Nov 16 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Saturday's National Hockey League games. - - - Devils 4, Penguins 1 Defenseman Adam Larsson scored his first goal in nearly two years and it proved to be the game-winner as the New Jersey Devils defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1. Goaltender Martin Brodeur made 27 saves as the Devils improved to 4-1-1 in their last six games. Left wing Jaromir Jagr scored twice and defenseman Andy Greene added another for the Devils. - - - Rangers 1, Canadiens 0 Ryan Callahan scored the lone goal to give the New York Rangers a 1-0 win over the Montreal Canadiens. Goalie Cam Talbot, making his first ever Bell Centre appearance, stopped 23 shots for the Rangers (10-9-0), who have won seven of their past nine games following their 2-0 loss to the Canadiens back on Oct. 28. Carey Price made 33 saves for Montreal (10-9-2). It was the Canadiens' fourth regulation loss, and sixth overall, in eight games thus far in November. - - - Coyotes 6, Lightning 3 Defenseman Connor Murphy scored his first career goal in his NHL debut and the Phoenix Coyotes continued their dominance on home ice this season with a 6-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Phoenix scored on two of their first three power plays and built a 3-0 lead to run their record at Jobing.com Arena to 9-0-1, in the process handing Tampa their first loss against a Western Conference opponent this season. - - - Islanders 5, Red Wings 4 (shootout) Center Frans Nielsen's shootout goal capped a wild back-and-forth game and lifted the New York Islanders past the Detroit Red Wings 5-4 at Nassau Coliseum. The Islanders trailed 2-1 and 3-2 before tying the game late in the second period, taking the lead early in the third and surviving a last-minute power-play goal by the Red Wings that forced overtime. John Tavares, Casey Cizikas, Brock Nelson and Pierre-Marc Bouchard also scored for the Islanders (8-10-3). Pavel Datsyuk scored twice for Detroit(9-5-7), including the tying goal with 43 seconds left in regulation. - - - Maple Leafs 4, Sabres 2 James van Riemsdyk scored two goals as the Toronto Maple Leafs snapped a three-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres. Nikolai Kulemin and Mason Raymond also scored for the Maple Leafs (12-7-1). Defenseman Jamie McBain and center Tyler Ennis scored for the Sabres (5-16-1). - - - Blues 4, Hurricanes 2 It did not take long for St. Louis Blues left winger Alexander Steen to make up for one of his rare mistakes this season to help the Blues to a 4-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. A giveaway by Steen set up the first of two short-handed goals by the Hurricanes on the same minor penalty and wiped out a 2-0 St. Louis lead late in the second period. But just 6:20 into the third period Steen broke the tie when he took a feed from defenseman Roman Polak and buried the puck past Carolina goalie Justin Peters for what turned out to be the winner. - - - Predators 7, Blackhawks 2 Returning home after a franchise-tying seven-game road swing spanning three time-zones and more than 6,800 miles an exhausted, battered Nashville Predators' squad returned to the Music City and raced out to a 4-0 lead against the Chicago Blackhawks, its Central Division rivals, en route to a 7-2 rout. An anemic Predators' offense, which scored only two goals over their final four games of the road trip, found the net three times in the first 30 minutes. With the victory, Nashville (9-9-2) broke a season-long four-game skid as the Blackhawks' (13-3-4) four-game winning streak came to an end. - - - Panthers 4, Avalanche 1 Goaltender Tim Thomas stopped 31 shots for his 200th NHL victory, defenseman Tom Gilbert had three assists and the Florida Panthers beat the Colorado Avalanche 4-1. Defenseman Brian Campbell had a goal and an assist, and right wingers Brad Boyes and Tomas Kopecky and center Jonathan Huberdeau also scored for the Panthers. Goaltender Semyon Varlamov made 29 saves and center Ryan O'Reilly had the only goal for Colorado, which has dropped three straight. - - - Oilers 4, Flames 2 David Perron helped the Edmonton Oilers snap a five-game losing streak by scoring the winning goal from behind the Calgary Flames goal, before adding an empty-net insurance marker, as the Oilers won the first Battle of Alberta 4-2.
