NFL roundup: Ravens must open 2013 season on the road
The Baltimore Ravens will be forced to play their 2013 season opener on the road after the team was unable to work out a solution with the Orioles.
The Orioles have a baseball game scheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET on Sept. 5 against the Chicago White Sox, making it impossible for the defending Super Bowl champion Ravens to play host to a game that evening because of traffic and parking concerns.
The defending NFL champions traditionally open the next season at home. The Ravens were hoping to pull off a twin bill in downtown Baltimore.
Instead, the Ravens will kick off the NFL season away from M&T Bank Stadium in the NFL's Thursday night season opener on Sept. 5.
---Safety Ed Reed reached agreement with the Houston Texans on a three-year, $15 million contract that includes $5 million in guaranteed money, the team announced Friday.
Reed, 34, spent his entire 11-year career with the Baltimore Ravens.
---Brian Urlacher apparently isn't going back to the Chicago Bears. He still wants to play next year, but at this point he doesn't know where.
Urlacher ws unable to work out a new contract with the Bears.
"I'm ... excited," he said on the Dan Patrick Show. "I get a chance to look around and see what's out there, if there's anything out there at all."
---One day after Chicago parted company with Urlacher, the Bears and former Denver Broncos linebacker D.J. Williams agreed to a one-year contract.
The deal includes a $900,000 base salary with up to $850,000 in incentives, according to USA Today.
---Add the Miami Dolphins to the teams that have shown an interest in signing defensive end Elvis Dumervil.
The Denver Broncos, who released Dumervil last week in a fax snafu, already made an offer to re-0sign him.
The Baltimore Sun reported that Baltimore Ravens have shown an interest in Dumbervil, and the Denver Post reported the Dolphins and Tennessee Titans also jumped into the discussions.
---The Kansas City Chiefs are willing to listen to offers for left tackle Branden Albert, but they have a price in mind for their franchise player.
The Chiefs want a second-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft and a selection in 2014, ESPN reported. According to the report, trade discussions have taken place with the Miami Dolphins and other teams.
---Free-agent tight end Kellen Davis signed a one-year contract with the Cleveland Browns, according to multiple reports.
Davis was cut by the Chicago Bears after the 2012 season.
---Exclusive rights free agent nose tackle Martin Tevaseu signed his tender with the Indianapolis Colts. The fourth-year veteran will receive $555,000 this season.
Tevaseau was acquired on waivers by the Colts last September after playing two years with the New York Jets.
---Cornerback Trumaine Johnson of the St. Louis Rams was arrested in Missoula, Mont., early Friday on a misdemeanor DUI charge, according to KPAX television station in Missoula.
The 23-year-old Johnson was booked into the Missoula county jail at 3:05 a.m. and released after posting a $700 bond about an hour later, according to the station.
---The Atlanta Falcons are making a push to sign Osi Umenyiora, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported.
Umenyiora, 31, visited the Falcons on Wednesday and took a physical on Thursday.
