NFL Roundup: Brady practices with Patriots

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady wore a brace over his injured left knee during practice Thursday and plans to play Friday, according to ESPN.com.

Though Brady did not to reporters after practice, ESPN cited sources that the veteran quarterback planned to play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their preseason game. The two teams held another joint practice Thursday and observers reported that Brady was moving without a limp and was fully engaged.

A preliminary report from an MRI taken on Brady's knee showed no damage. Brady has described the injury as a bruise. Some reports have stated that it is a sprain.

Also Thursday, guard Tyrone Green was placed on injured reserve and offensive lineman Kevin Haslam and wide receiver Michael Jenkins were released by the Patriots.

---Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller's appeal hearing scheduled for Thursday was postponed, according to ESPN.

Miller was suspended four games for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. He is facing further discipline following his recent arrest for failing to appear in court for an outstanding warrant.

Miller was at a gun club in Araphoe County (Colo.) at the time of the arrest. He was booked and released Sunday, which was an off day for the team.

---Minnesota Vikings Pro Bowl fullback Jerome Felton is expected to miss the remainder of the preseason after having an emergency appendectomy on Wednesday.

Felton was rushed to a hospital after participating in the team's morning walk-through.

Recovery is typically about two weeks, but the team will likely keep him out of action until the regular season opener on Sept. 8 against the Detroit Lions.

---New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma is in Philadelphia to have knee surgery, ESPN reported Thursday.

Vilma is expected to miss the rest of the preseason because of the arthroscopic procedure, but should be ready by the beginning of the regular season.

A knee injury kept Vilma out six games last year. He is vying for a starting spot this season but could be challenged by backup David Hawthorne.

---The Washington Redskins signed free agent linebacker Quan Sturdivant and released wide receiver Devery Henderson.

Sturdivant was a sixth round draft pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2011 out of North Carolina. He spent his rookie season on the practice squad. After the Cardinals released him in 2012, he was signed to the Kansas City Chiefs' practice squad.

In nine NFL seasons, Henderson has 245 catches for 4,377 yards with 20 touchdowns -- all with the New Orleans Saints. He was a second round pick in 2004.

---The Buffalo Bills announced Thursday that they reached an injury settlement with rookie defensive tackle Aaron Tipoti and released him.

Tipoti signed with the Bills on April 29 as an undrafted rookie free agent. He injured an ankle on Aug. 5.
