NFL-National Football League roundup

Dec 14 (The Sports Xchange) - Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton, who fractured the thumb on his throwing hand while making a tackle on Sunday, won't need surgery and will be "week-to-week." Dalton met with a hand specialist Monday to determine the extent of the injury. - - Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck told reporters that his goal was to start practicing this week. "Feeling a lot better," Luck said. "The hope is that you can start practicing before (being cleared to play) so that when you are clear, you can hit the ground running. Luck will meet with doctors later this week to determine his status for Sunday's pivotal AFC South game against the Houston Texans at Lucas Oil Stadium. - - New England Patriots safety Devin McCourty suffered a sprained ankle in Sunday night's 27-6 win over the Houston Texans and will miss some games, according to reports. NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reported that X-rays were negative but the Patriots are not sure if the sprain is the high-ankle variety, which typically carries a more significant rehabilitation time. McCourty is not expected to miss the playoffs. - - Safety Antrel Rolle was placed on injured reserve with a sprained knee and offensive tackle Tayo Fabuluje rejoined the Chicago Bears' 53-man roster. Rolle has a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee and hasn't participated in on-field workouts since he was hurt in a Nov. 15 practice. - - The eight finalists for the second annual Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award were announced by the NFL on Monday. The finalists, featuring four players from each conference, are running back Justin Forsett of the Baltimore Ravens, running back Matt Forte of the Chicago Bears, linebacker Luke Kuechly of the Carolina Panthers, quarterback Matt Hasselbeck of the Indianapolis Colts, wide receiver Calvin Johnson of the Detroit Lions, cornerback Jason McCourty of the Tennessee Titans, tackle Joe Staley of the San Francisco 49ers and safety Charles Woodson of the Oakland Raiders. - - The Minnesota Vikings re-signed defensive end Justin Trattou and waived safety Shaun Prater. Trattou has been active for two games for the Vikings this season. Prater was signed last week to add safety depth for Thursday night's game against the Arizona Cardinals. - - The Miami Dolphins signed defensive tackle Deandre Coleman off their practice squad. To make room on the roster, the team placed tight end Brandon Williams on injured reserve after he broke a bone in his foot Friday. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
