Joel Abelson reaches agreement to coach Kings' D-League affiliate

The Reno Bighorns – the Sacramento Kings' NBA Development League affiliate – have reached an agreement with Joel Abelson to become head coach, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Abelson spent the 2012-13 season in his first year as a D-League head coach with the Sioux Falls Skyforce. The franchise improved 10 games – finishing 25-25 – over the previous season.

After the Miami Heat took over Sioux Falls as its hybrid affiliate this summer, Miami inserted its own personnel into the front office and coaching staff, and let Abelson go.

Before joining Sioux Falls as head coach, Abelson spent two years as an assistant coach with the Idaho Stampede.

The Kings recently assigned front office executive Shareef Abdur-Rahim to be the Bighorns' general manager.
