Monta Ellis scores 38 as Mavericks sneak past Spurs

Monta Ellis put up 38 points to help the Dallas Mavericks sneak by the San Antonio Spurs, 99-93. Dallas (20-8) has now won three in a row.

Ellis went 15-23 from the field (5-6 on 3-pointers) and 3-6 from the free throw line, in a solid performance. Chandler Parsons also chipped in for Dallas, finishing with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Despite the loss, Marco Belinelli scored 21 points for San Antonio on 7-16 shooting. Cory Joseph added 14 points and six rebounds and Kyle Anderson finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.

In addition to 23.1% from 3-point range, the Spurs tallied an eFG% of just 43.5%. They are 1-2 on the season when registering marks below 30% and 45%, respectively, in those statistics. The Mavericks, conversely, are undefeated (2-0) when holding the opposition to such dismal shooting numbers.

San Antonio (17-11) has now lost four consecutive games.

Coming up, the Mavericks square off against the Atlanta Hawks, who are 19-7 on the season. The Spurs meet the Los Angeles Clippers, currently sitting at 18-8 this year. The Spurs have a 1-0 record against Los Angeles this season.
