MLB roundup: Marlins fired team president Beinfest
The Miami Marlins fired team president Larry Beinfest on Friday and are expected to replace him with the team's assistant general manager, Dan Jennings, multiple media outlets reported.
Beinfest had been with the Marlins' front office for 12 years, as the team built up its roster and tore apart several times.
Most recently the team spent money to acquire free agent Jose Reyes before their new ballpark opened in 2012. Reyes and Mark Buehrle were among the high-priced acquisitions that spent just one season in Miami before they were traded to the Toronto Blue Jays last November.
Beinfest was Miami's general manager when the Marlins won the 2003 World Series for their second title.
---Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Brian Wilson was seen screaming at San Francisco Giants CEO Larry Baer after Thursday night's game at AT&T Park.
CSN Bay Area reported that the former Giants closer had a disagreement with Baer over the World Series ring he was owed from 2012, when Wilson was a member of the Giants.
Right after the game ended, Wilson walked over to the other side of the ballpark where Baer was seated and began yelling at him over the ring he never received. Baer then delivered the ring to Dodgers' personnel outside the visiting team's clubhouse to give to Wilson.
---St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Allen Craig has been out since Sept. 4 with a foot injury and he won't be back in time to play in the National League Division Series next week, general manager John Mozeliak said Friday afternoon, according to HardballTalk.com.
Craig has a Lisfranc injury involving a metatarsal bone, according to Mozeliak, and the team fears it will get worse if he tries to play through it.
Matt Adams has hit eight home runs in September as Craig's replacement, and Adams is hitting .285 with 17 homers for the season. Craig is hitting .315 with 13 homers this year, but he has a reputation as an outstanding clutch hitter and is a better defensive first baseman than Adams.
