Miami's Johnson to miss Sweet 16 game

Miami Hurricanes center Reggie Johnson did not travel with the team to Washington, D.C, for its Sweet 16 game against Marquette, instead staying behind with an injury sustained during the team's third-round game against Illinois.

Johnson, a 6-foot-10 senior, suffered "lower extremity injury" against the Illini, according a statement made by the school on Tuesday.

Johnson missed nine games this season, all but one coming after he fractured his thumb just before Christmas. He was averaging 12.6 points and 10.1 rebounds at the time of that injury but had struggled since his return, watching his playing time dip to just 13.3 minutes per game in his last 12 contests. He averaged just 2.8 points and 3.8 boards in those games.

Johnson had seven points and 15 rebounds in 42 minutes during Miami's first two NCAA Tournament games against Pacific and Illinois.
