McNabb to retire as an Eegle on Monday
Donovan McNabb announced his intention to retire from the NFL in May, but he will make it official as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, the team announced Sunday.
A retirement news conference is scheduled at 10 a.m. ET Monday at the team's training facility. The Eagles also plan to honor McNabb at a Sept. 19 game against Kansas City when former Philadelphia and current Chiefs coach Andy Reid will be on hand for the ceremony.
McNabb, the No. 2 overall pick in the 1999 NFL Draft, led the Eagles to five NFC championship games and to Super Bowl XXXIX, where they lost to the New England Patriots.
McNabb's record was 92-49-1 with the Eagles. Sometimes revered and other times despised by Philadelphia fans, McNabb was traded to the Washington Redskins before the 2010 season.
The 36-year-old McNabb holds Eagles franchise records for completions with 2,801, passing yards with 32,873 and touchdowns passes with 216. He ranks 17th in NFL history in career passing yards with 37,276 and 22nd in touchdown passes with 234.
McNabb's last year in the NFL was with the Minnesota Vikings in 2011 when he played in six games before the team released him. He tried to hook on with another team but could not find one willing to take him.
