Man who fell before ACC title game listed in critical condition

A Florida man injured in a four-story fall Saturday night at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C., before the ACC championship game was still hospitalized in critical condition.

Sean Michael Powers of New Port Richey, Fla., was identified by local police as the victim. They reported that the 22-year-old was walking up a ramp to look for his seat and got too close to a railing before falling into a grassy area outside the stadium.

He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center for treatment. His parents were notified of the accident.

The Charlotte Observer reported that police were not certain what caused the fall but that no foul play was suspected. Capt. William Boger of the Charlotte-Mecklenberg police told The Observer that Powers could have been intoxicated

"He fell from high enough up where he is pretty messed up," Boger said, according to the newspaper.

It also was unclear whether Powers was a fan of either team.

The game was played and Florida State prevailed 21-15.

No previous incidents of this kind apparently had occurred in the stadium.
