Landon Collins, Damon “Snacks” Harrison Among Six Giants Named AP All-Pro

The New York Giants spent $200 million in the offseason to upgrade their defense. Five of the six Giants players named to the 2016 AP All-Pro Teams play on the defensive side of the ball.

Safety Landon Collins and defensive tackle Damon Harrison were named First Team All-Pro.

Collins had a historic 2016 season. He became the first player in NFL history to compile at least 100 tackles, 12 passes defended, five interceptions, and two sacks in a single season.

Collins lead the team in tackles with 125, a franchise record for a safety. He also had 13 passes defended, five interceptions, and four sacks. Collins also recovered a fumble and scored a defensive touchdown. He was the NFC Defensive Player of the Week twice (Weeks 7 and 9), becoming the first player since former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu in 2013 to earn the honor in consecutive games. Collins was the NFC Defensive Player of the Month for November.

Harrison is regarded as one of the best run stoppers in the NFL. In his first season with the Giants, the man called Snacks led all defensive linemen in tackles with 86. He also had a career high 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble. According to Pro Football Focus, Harrison had more than 50 run stops in the regular season. The only other player in the last 10 years with at least 50 run stops is the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt.

Four Giants players were named Second Team All-Pro: wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., cornerbacks Janoris Jenkins and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and defensive end Olivier Vernon.

Beckham is the Giants’ only offensive player named All-Pro. He became the fastest player in NFL history to reach 200 career receptions and 4,000 receiving yards. Beckham was third in receptions (101), third in receiving yards (1,367), fifth in receiving yards per game (85.4), and fifth in touchdowns (10) despite facing double coverage on every snap. He was the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 6.

Jenkins spent his season shadowing and shutting down every No. 1 receiver he faced. The corner known as Jackrabbit compiled 49 tackles, 18 pass deflections, three interceptions, and a forced fumble. He was NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 2 when he blocked a field goal and returned it 65 yards for a touchdown.

Rodgers-Cromartie led the Giants in interceptions with six, tying his career high. He earned a No. 2 overall cornerback grade by Pro Football Focus. DRC also had 49 tackles, 21 pass deflections, a sack, and a forced fumble. Rodgers-Cromartie was NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 17.

Vernon led the NFL in tackles for a loss with 17 in his first season with the Giants. His 8.5 sacks were a team high. Vernon also had career high in tackles with 63 and 23 quarterback hits. He is regarded as one of the best two-way defensive ends in the NFL.
