Kolb to start Cardinals' first preseason game

Even though Kevin Kolb sustained a thigh bruise in Monday's practice, Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt named Kolb his starting quarterback for Sunday's Hall of Fame Game against the New Orleans Saints, which is the team's preseason opener, Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com reported Tuesday.

Kolb, who has not been declared the team's regular-season starter, took a knee from backup nose tackle David Carter late in Monday's practice, putting Kolb out for the rest of the practice.

The Cardinals did not practice on Tuesday and Kolb is expected to be back when the team resumes practice on Wednesday.

Kolb is in a competition with John Skelton for the Cardinals' starting job.

Starting the first game of the preseason is a positive sign, but Skelton could get a chance to start one or two of the Cardinals' five preseason games.
