June Shortstop Rankings

Now that the offseason has officially begun, Matthew Pouliot takes a look at the top 150 free agents

Welcome to the June shortstop rankings. Players are ranked based on how I believe they will perform in 5x5 leagues over the remainder of the season. Along with the position rankings, you'll find a fully updated top 300 list.

Shortstop Rankings

Dropping off: Luis Cruz (50th)

  • I've been none too kind to Castro in some writings elsewhere, but I'm having a hard time dropping him here. It's so disappointing that he's still not growing as a player at age 23, but he should go back to hitting like he did the last two years and once that happens, he's probably a top-five shortstop. It helps that he gets more at-bats than anyone else at the position, maybe more than anyone else in the majors.

  • Gregorius has made a great first impression in Arizona, but I don't buy the power and he's a zero when it comes to stolen bases. He might have a little value in mixed leagues for as long as the Diamondbacks continue to bat him second, but I think he'll end up in the seventh or eighth spot when all is said and done.
