Jordan Shearer finishes career with 6 North Dakota wrestling titles, state record for wins

Want to know who has the most individual wrestling wins in North Dakota history? Look for the same guy who owns more state titles than anybody else.

Jordan Shearer of West Fargo (N.D.) capped off his prep career over the weekend with the North Dakota Class A title in the 145-pound division, his sixth state championship, according to inforum.com. His career 259-21 record sets him atop the list of individual wins in state history.

Shearer won the title at 103 pounds in seventh and eighth grades, then won at 113, 126 and 132 before this past weekend.

“I tried not to think about how it would end and not get too ahead of myself,” Shearer told the website. “It was something I had to push to the back of my mind and not worry about. I just had to wrestle one year at a time.”

Teammate Jared Franek also stole some limelight, as the freshman won the 120-pound title to finish with the most wins ever in a single season (51-0).

The National Federation of State High School Associations does not count middle school accomplishments toward career totals, so he joins a long list of four-time state champs.
