John Moraga vs. Darren Uyenoyama Added to UFC on Fox 9 Fight Card

John Moraga Out with Injury, Darren Uyenoyama Gets New UFC on Fox 9 Opponent

Former UFC flyweight title challenger John Moraga will try to get back to his winning ways when he faces Darren Uyenoyama at UFC on Fox 9 in Sacramento.

UFC officials announced the bout on Sunday.

Moraga (13-2) enters the fight with Uyenoyama having failed to take the 125-pound divisional title from Demetrious Johnson at UFC on Fox 8 in July. He took “Mighty Mouse” into the championship rounds, but eventually lost via armbar in the fifth and final round.

The loss to Johnson derailed a seven-fight winning streak that dated back to early 2011. Moraga’s only other loss as a professional was to The Ultimate Fighter 14 winner John Dodson before either of them were fighting in the Octagon.

Uyenoyama (8-4) is also coming off of a loss. Joseph Benavidez stopped him via TKO due to a brutal body kick and follow-up punches at UFC on Fox 7 in April.

Uyenoyama had made an immediate splash in the Octagon, defeating Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto in his promotional debut at the first UFC on Fox event in November 2011. He followed that with a victory over top British flyweight Phil Harris before losing to Benavidez.

UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis puts his newly minted belt on the line for the first time in the UFC on Fox 9 main event on Dec. 14 in Sacramento when he faces former Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson.
