Jets release veteran LB Thomas

The New York Jets released linebacker Bryan Thomas and signed cornerback Donnie Fletcher from the practice squad, the team announced Saturday.

Thomas was a first-round pick of the Jets in 2002. He has 439 tackles, 31 sacks, seven forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries in his career. He ranks second in team history with 11 playoff appearances. His best season was in 2006 when he had a career-best 8.5 sacks and 77 tackles.

Fletcher signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent in May and was named to the practice squad on Sept. 1.
