Jeter homers in first at-bat

Derek Jeter did not waste any time making an impact in his return to the New York Yankkes' lineup on Sunday.

The veteran shortstop hit the first pitch to him from Tampa Bay's Matt Moore in the first inning over the wall in right field in Yankee Stadium. The home run gave the Yankees a 1-0 lead in the finale of a weekend series.

Jeter, who started at shortstop for the first time since last season, received a standing ovation before his first at-bat. After the homer, he was given another ovation.

The 39-year-old Jeter returned on July 11 from a fractured ankle suffered in the playoffs last year and went 1-for-4 as the designated hitter against the Kansas City Royals. But he strainied a calf muscle running the bases and had not played again until Sunday.
