With the first week of training camp completed for the Green Bay Packers, the question still remains about who will be the third receiver for Aaron Rodgers’ passing attack.

Rookie Trevor Davis has made some explosive plays and fan-favorite Jeff Janis has been up and down and it’s still too early to give either the nod. However many people have been pulling for Jared Abbrederis and he has looked impressive thus far.

Abbrederis hasn’t had the career he had hoped for coming into the league from the University of Wisconsin in 2014. Despite a torn ACL in 2014 and concussions last season, the Packers have always felt that they had something special with this former fifth round draft pick. If Abbrederis can stay healthy, they are probably right since he has flashed his special athletic ability in camp.

Whether it’s running a perfect route and Rodgers finding him or making a leaping catch for a touchdown, Abbrederis is doing it all. With so much depth at the receiver spots and not enough spaces to fill them, Abbrederis knows what he has to do to keep his spot.

“I just have to keep it going,” he said, via packers.com. “I just have to stay on top of things and make sure I’m available. That’s the biggest thing.

“You compete every day, trying to move up the depth chart, but it’s not like you’re worried about numbers here or there. You’re just going out, doing your thing, and at the end of the day, it’ll all work out.”

On Saturday, Abbrederis made is contribution by putting on a performance that included an incredible 15-yard post route that ended with him leaping and coming down with a touchdown grab.

With Davis performing well and looking like he could be a deep threat and Abberderis showing some promise, the battle for the number three receiver just got a little more interesting. If Janis can get his mind together and perform better, a three receiver race would be a lot more interesting to watch.

But for now, let’s reward Abbrederis for his play and hope he can continue performing at a high level.
