James named Miami-Fla. AD

Blake James, who has been acting as Miami-Fla.'s interim athletic director since October, had the interim label removed from his title on Friday, when he was named the Hurricanes' athletic director.

He replaced Shawn Eichorst, who left in October to become athletic director at Nebraska.

"Blake James has proven that he has the experience, skills, leadership and especially the love for the University that we need in Athletics," said University of Miami President Donna E. Shalala in a statement.

"Having spent more than nine years at the University of Miami, I understand what an honor and tremendous responsibility it is to serve as Director of Athletics," said James in a statement. "My passion for this institution, the students, the staff and our fans, is matched only by my commitment to excellence in everything that we do. I want to thank President Shalala and the Board of Trustees for their support and I look forward to many great days ahead at The U."

James returned to Miami for the third time in 2010 after spending seven years at the University of Maine, the last five as its athletic director.

Miami has been part of an NCAA investigation for more than two years, and the probe focuses on former booster Nevin Shapiro, who said he provided cash and gifts to Miami players, coaches and recruits over an eight-year period. Shapiro was convicted for his part in a Ponzi scheme and sentenced to prison.
