Have you ever been punched in the gut? That’s about how this game went. That’s also how it had to feel for many Titans fans. Announcer Steve Beurlein said, “It could not have gone worse for the Titans today.”

Marcus Mariota was not playing well, but none of the Titans really were. Jaguars defensive lineman, Sheldon Day, got past Josh Kline and sacked Marcus Mariota as he was trying to get away. He fell on Mariota’s ankle as he tackled him. The announcers referred to the injury as “gruesome.” Here is a picture. Warning, gruesome may be a fitting description. The cart came out and the training staff put Mariota’s leg in an air cast. As Mariota was being driven off the field, it felt like so were the Titans chances of making the playoffs. That may not be accurate, we’ll see, but that’s how it felt to watch him get carted off.

The Jaguars were fired up to play for interim coach Doug Marrone and the rival Titans. This was probably their best game of the season. Every facet of the game seemed to play well for them.

Cornerback LeShaun Sims was injured. Kendall Wright limped off, but did return. The Jaguars lost two running backs, TJ Yeldon and then Chris Ivory, to injuries. It was a game of extra hard hits and several injuries.

Josh Kline did not have a good day. He allowed two sacks. On a (seemingly) key late possession, Derrick Henry was handed the ball on third and one. Kline pulled to the left and got in his way. Then as Henry and the pile were moving forward, Kline got tripped from behind.

Coach Mularkey just stated, “Marcus has a fractured fibula, obviously he is out.” There’s no reason to debate a fracture versus a break now.

Matt Cassel threw for 124 yards and a touchdown to Delanie Walker in about six minutes. He threw against a prevent defense most of the time. He also threw an interception to Jalen Ramsey whom returned it for a touchdown.

DeMarco Murray only rushed for 42 yards. Derrick Henry only ran for 13. Harry Douglas led the Titans in receiving with five catches for 48 yards.

Valentino Blake was not exclusively on Allen Robinson, but he covered him a large part of the game. Robinson continued to look like a hall of famer against the Titans. He had 9 catches for 147 yards.

Blake Bortles has had a terrible season, but he was sharp today. He was nearly perfect in the first half and finished with 325 yards passing. He even caught a touchdown pass after flipping the ball to Marqise Lee.

That picture above is an advertisement for Saint Thomas Health. That will have to be the theme for the Titans next week.

The Titans now need some help, in other games, to make the playoffs.

It was a bitter loss, but kudos to the Jaguars.
