Jackets take Sabres castoff Tropp
The Columbus Blue Jackets claimed forward Corey Tropp off waivers from the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday.
Tropp has one assist in nine appearances for the Sabres this season. His career totals include three goals, six assists and 20 penalty minutes in 43 NHL games.
The 24-year-old Tropp missed most of the 2013 season with a knee injury.
"He's a young kid that brings a lot to the table. We think he can help us now, and he has a chance to stick long term," Blue Jackets general manager Yarmo Kekalainen said.
The Sabres' 2007 third-round draft choice became available after the Sabres picked up forward Matt D'Agostini off waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday.
"That's unfortunate that we don't have enough positions or room for him right now," Sabres coach Ted Nolan said, according to The Buffalo News. "It's good for him to be picked up by somebody else and get his career going. Unfortunately, it just wasn't happening here at that moment. You take a chance, and now it's good for Corey."
