Indians acquire reliever from Cardinals

The Cleveland Indians added reliever Marc Rzepczynski to their bullpen in a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday for minor league infielder Juan Herrera, the teams announced.

Rzepczynski has spent most of this season in the minors. He recently returned to Triple-A Memphis after a brief stay with the Cardinals.

The 27-year-old Rzepczynski joined the Cardinals as part of a 2011 trade with the Toronto Blue Jays. He was strong for the rest of that season, pitching 2 2/3 scoreless innings in the World Series, before gong 1-3 with a 4.24 ERA in 70 games during a lackluster 2012 season.

This season, Rzepczynski pitched in 11 games for the Cardinals and was 0-0 with a 7.84 ERA. His ERA with Triple-A Memphis was 3.07.

Herrera, 28, is playing for short-season Class A Mahoning Valley this summer. In three professional seasons in the low levels of the minors, he has a .286 batting average.
