CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Indians pounded out seven home runs, five of them two-run homers, and rolled to a 14-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday night.
The seven home runs are one shy of the club record. Indians utilityman Ryan Raburn, who has played right field the last two games, hit two of Cleveland's home runs, and now has hit home runs in four of his last six at-bats over two games. Raburn hit two home runs Monday night in Kansas City.
Cleveland scored four runs in three of the first five innings, most of that damage coming off Phillies starter Roy Halladay, who gave up eight runs on nine hits, three of them home runs, in 3 2/3 innings. Halladay's record fell to 2-3.
Indians starter Zach McAllister gave up two runs in seven innings to get the win. He is 2-3.
The Indians scored four runs each in the first, fourth and fifth innings to take a 12-2 lead. In the seventh inning Raburn and Drew Stubbs hit back-to-back solo home runs off Phillies reliever Raul Valdes.
Every starter in the Cleveland lineup hit at least one home run with the exception of Jason Kipnis, Asdrubal Cabrera and Jason Giambi. Every Cleveland starter scored at least one run, with the exception of Cabrera.
The Indians have won three games in a row and have out-scored their opponents 33-5 in the three games.
Cleveland used the long ball to knock Halladay from the game in the fourth inning. Halladay gave up two two-run home runs in the first inning and another two-run shot in the fourth.
Carlos Santana and Mark Reynolds hit two-run homers in the first inning to give the Indians a 4-0 lead. A home run by Delmon Young, in his first at bat of the season, off Cleveland starter Zach McAllister in the second inning cut the Indians lead to 4-1. But Cleveland erupted for four more runs in the fourth inning to knock Halladay out of the game.
Halladay gave up hits to the first four batters he faced in the inning, one of those a two-run homer by Lonnie Chisenhall. A two-run single by Asdrubal Cabrera, the last batter faced by Halladay, gave Cleveland an 8-1 lead after four innings.
Phillies reliever Chad Durbin gave up two more two-run homers in the fifth inning, one by Raburn. The other, by Michael Brantley, stretched the Cleveland lead to 12-1.
NOTES: Phillies outfielder Delmon Young, who had been on the disabled list since the start of the season as he recovered from right ankle surgery, was activated prior to the game. ... Outfielder Ezequiel Carrera was designated for assignment by the Phillies prior to the game, in order to make room on the roster for Young, who was activated off the DL. ... Indians first baseman/outfielder Nick Swisher was not in the starting lineup and manager Terry Francona said Swisher probably won't play Wednesday as well, due to a sore left shoulder. ... Indians outfielder Michael Bourn (lacerated right index finger) was eligible to come off the disabled list Tuesday, but Francona said before that happens Bourn will play a couple of games on a minor league rehab assignment.
