Frank Cignetti is the New York Giants’ fourth quarterbacks coach in four years. After working with Eli Manning for less than a week, he is already impressed with No. 10.

“Eli has been outstanding,” Cignetti said. “In the classroom, what a pro. Great preparation. You can see on the practice field that he has been a great decision maker. I am so impressed with his fundamentals. I am very impressed with Eli so far in training camp.”

Cignetti, who succeeded Mike Sullivan (who is now Ben McAdoo’s offensive coordinator) as quarterbacks coach, brings a wealth of collegiate and NFL experience.

His father, Frank Cignetti, Sr., was a successful coach on the Division II level. He coached at West Virginia and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, compiling a record of 199-77-1 and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2013.

Cignetti, Jr. played safety for his father, earning All-Conference honors and a degree in 1988. He began his coaching career at his alma mater, serving as a wide receivers coach, defensive backs coach, quarterbacks coach, and offensive coordinator.

His first NFL job was a quality control assistant with the Kansas City Chiefs.

He also was a quarterbacks coach for the New Orleans Saints, helping Jeff Blake achieve a career high quarterback rating of 82.7 in 2000 and Aaron Brooks become the first quarterback in NFL history to defeat the defending Super Bowl champs (the St. Louis Rams) in his first postseason start.

Cignetti was the offensive coordinator at Fresno State from 2002-05. During the 2004 season, Fresno State averaged 52.8 in its final six games, becoming just the sixth team in Division I history to score 50 or more points in four consecutive games.

Most recently, Cignetti was with the Rams as a quarterback coach working with Sam Bradford. Under Cignetti’s tutelage, Bradford achieved career highs in touchdowns (21) and quarterback rating (90.9).

Now Cignetti is excited to work with a quarterback who hasn’t missed a start in 12 seasons, thrown for 44,187 yards and 294 touchdowns, and won two Super Bowls.

“Coming here as a quarterbacks coach is awesome,” Cignetti said. “I mean, you could not be in a better place to coach quarterbacks. Coach McAdoo and Coach Sullivan are also involved, they do a great job and they have laid a great foundation. Eli is a pro. He has won two Super Bowls. The communication in our classroom is outstanding. It is important for Eli to come to work every day, study the passing game, he is very interested in his fundamentals and techniques. It has been great.”
