Giants fan injured in beating goes home
The San Francisco Giants fan who was severely beaten two years ago at Dodger Stadium is back home after two years of treatment in rehabilitation centers and hospitals.
But it is a bittersweet return for Bryan Stow. The former paramedic was moved out of the care centers because his family's insurance has run out. He had spent the past year at a live-in rehab facility in Bakersfield, Calif., near his residence in Santa Cruz, and continues to have pain and difficulty with his memory.
Stow, the father of two, suffered brain damage in the beating that took place in the parking lot outside Dodger Stadium after the 2011 season opener between the San Francisco Giants and Dodgers. Two Dodgers fans are awaiting trial in the brutal beating case. A lawsuit against the Dodgers and former owner Frank McCourt also is pending.
The family posted on its website thta Stow needed more time at the care center, but with insurance benefits exhausted, his parents and nurses will provide care. Cuts in therapy coverage have hindered Stow's progress, the family said.
"Bryan requires 24-hour nursing care, but this is not covered by insurance," the family wrote on its website, support4bryanstow.com. "So we had to hire caregivers in order to help Bryan to get up and showered in the morning, and get dressed and in bed in the evening."
