Giants designate Francoeur for assignment

Outfielder Jeff Francoeur was designated for assignment for the second time this season when the San Francisco Giants parted ways with the veteran on Tuesday.

The Giants made several other roster moves, recalling pitchers Mike Kickham and Jean Machi from Triple-A Fresno and clearing space on the 25-man roster by placing Chad Gaudin (carpal tunnel syndrome) on the disabled list.

| The 29-year-old Francoeur had signed with the Giants four days after he was released by the Kansas City Royals on July 5.

This season, Francoeur was hitting a combined .204 with three home runs and 17 RBIs for the Royals and Giants and just .194 with no home runs with San Francisco.

Francoeur has struggled after hitting 29 home runs and driving in 103 runs as a rookie. In the past five seasons, he has played with five different teams.
