Georgia NT Jenkins out for bowl game

Georgia suffered a significant loss when coach Mark Richt announced Wednesday that nose tackle John Jenkins will not play in the Capital One Bowl against Nebraska on Jan. 1 because of academic issues.

The 358-pound Jenkins had started all 13 games this season and was second among the Bulldogs defensive linemen in tackles with 50.

He is the anchor of the Bulldogs' run defense, which will be important against Nebraska, which ranks eighth nationally in rushing offense.

Jenkins is a senior, so his collegiate career is over.

"John Jenkins won't be here," said Richt on the school's website. "It's academic related, he will not be at the bowl, and that will be all I'll say about that. ... I think John Jenkins has been awesome for Georgia. I'm really proud of everything he's accomplished for us. Just really want to wish him the very best. He's been a blessing for our program."
