Former DL Douglas charged with assault, strangulation
Former NFL defensive lineman Hugh Douglas arraigned Tuesday in Connecticut on third-degree assault and second-degree strangulation charges stemming from an alleged attack of a woman at a Hartford hotel.
Douglas appeared in Hartford Superior Court six weeks after he was fired by ESPN as co-host of Numbers Never Lie because of another incident.
Courts records indicated that Douglas grabbed a woman by the neck and slammed her into a wall several times. Douglas said the woman's injuries were the result of rough sex.
In the earlier incident, Douglas allegedly attacked Numbers Never Lie co-host Michael Smith at a party on Aug. 2. Less than two weeks later, Douglas was fired by ESPN. The network had hired him as a football analyst in 2011.
During a 10-year NFL career, Douglas played for the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars. He was named the defensive rookie of the year in his first season in the league in 1995.
