Dose: Russell Wilson Runs Wild

Jeff Brubach discusses Russell Wilson's postseason rushing ability and other NFL news in Friday's Daily Dose

The Redskins entered Monday night's game against the Seahawks with the league's No. 7 run defense, while Russell Wilson woke up Monday morning with 87 yards rushing. That all changed in Seattle's 27-17 win over Washington. The Seahawks' No. 2 rushing offense racked up 225 yards and one score on the ground on 36 attempts, with Wilson leading the charge at 122 yards and the score on 11 quarterback scampers. Washington had no answer. At times, Seattle would have Wilson and Marshawn Lynch lined up in the backfield with Percy Harvin coming in motion. Defenders had to pick their poison, and Wilson would read the play and make the decision who to give the ball to. Brian Orakpo and Ryan Kerrigan lost contain several times on the edges. And second-round rookie Trent Murphy was the culprit on Wilson's nine-yard touchdown run. The plays he makes with his legs are unbelievable. Wilson makes jaw-dropping escapes on a weekly basis.

We can't forget Russell Wilson the passer. He threw for 201 yards and two more scores on Monday night. After rushing for 45 yards on the opening drive, Wilson capped it off with a 15-yard touchdown strike on a seam route to Jermaine Kearse. Prior to that, Wilson threw a dime to Doug Baldwin that Baldwin failed to reel in. Wilson also had 26- and 41-yard touchdown passes to Harvin wiped off the board due to penalties. While Wilson may be a product of the system in Seattle, there may not be another quarterback in the league outside of Andrew Luck who we'd pick to start a franchise. Wilson is on pace to complete 70.3 percent of his passes for 3,408 yards and a 32:4 TD:INT ratio. He's also on pace to run for over 800 yards and four touchdowns. All would be career-highs. Wilson will remain a QB1 for a home date with the Cowboys next Sunday.

Seahawks at Redskins Notes

Marshawn Lynch has caught a touchdown in three straight games. His hands are an extremely underrated part of his game. … Percy Harvin had three touchdowns nullified by penalties, a 16-yard rushing score and 26-yard and 41-yard receiving scores. … Niles Paul was targeted just twice on the night. With Jordan Reed (hamstring) likely back for Week 6, Paul owners may be able to cut bait later this week. He was blown up as a blocker on Monday. … DeSean Jackson beat Kam Chancellor for a 60-yard score before winning against Byron Maxwell and Earl Thomas for a 57-yard pickup. Richard Sherman had a decent nigh in coverage. Jackson's touchdown was his 12th of 60-plus yards in his career. … Andre Roberts took Pierre Garcon's targets. Garcon is normally the guy the Redskins look to when they need a first down, but he was targeted just three times to Roberts' nine on Monday. … Alfred Morris should get back on track against the banged-up Cardinals in Week 6.

In Other News…

After it was initially believed Montee Ball would be out for "a while" with his groin injury suffered Sunday against the Cardinals, the Denver Post is now reporting that Ball is expected to miss only two weeks. We'll safely put the timetable at 2-3 weeks. Already struggling through the season's first month, Ball will likely miss tough matchups against the Jets and 49ers. Ronnie Hillman will move into the lead role, with C.J. Anderson and Juwan Thompson mixing in. Hillman came off the bench to run for 64 yards on 15 carries against Arizona. Even with the aforementioned not-so-favorable tilts coming up, Hillman needs to be picked up in all formats. This is a Peyton Manning-led offense we're talking about. Ball owners need to sit tight.

Rashad Jennings has been diagnosed with a sprained MCL. He's expected to miss 1-2 games at the very least. It's actually good news for Jennings, but an untimely injury for Jennings' fantasy owners. He's going to miss games against the Eagles and Cowboys if he's sidelined two weeks. That leaves rookie Andre Williams in the workhorse role for the G-Men and outs him right into the RB1/2 mix. The Giants have their bye in Week 8. Williams is a downhill runner with a nose for the end zone. He's scored in back-to-back games.

Zac Stacy was forced from Sunday's Week 5 game against the Eagles with a left calf injury. He was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game, suggesting it was a significant pull. But NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Stacy should be good to go against the 49ers next Monday night, while coach Jeff Fisher has also said he expects Stacy to play. Stacy has proven to be susceptible to nicks and bruises since taking over partway through last season, and he isn't a big-play running back. He needs volume. Stacy is averaging just 15 touches per game. The Rams are going to continue to mix in Benny Cunningham and Trey Watts. Stacy is a back-end RB2.

Struggling his way through the past two games before being forced to leave Week 5 early, Calvin Johnson may be put on the shelf for a couple weeks with his ankle injury. Coach Jim Caldwell considered sitting Megatron against the Bills, but opted to play him. After the aggravation, there's even more reason to sit Johnson in Week 6. If he's out, Golden Tate and Eric Ebron should be the Lions' top pass catchers, with Tate becoming the clear No. 1 guy. Tate has drawn Antonio Brown comparisons in the past.

Quarterback & Running Back Slants

If not, it'll be Logan Thomas. … Derek Carr (knee, ankle) practiced Monday. … The "thinking remains" Mark Ingram (hand) ail return in Week 7 after the bye. He needs to be owned in all formats as he'll be returning to the No. 1 early-down role ahead of Khiry Robinson. … Knowshon Moreno (elbow) "hopes" to play this week against the Packers. The Miami Herald believes there's a real chance Moreno suits up vs. Green Bay. … Coach Andy Reid blamed game flow on Jamaal Charles' lack of touches Sunday. … Coach Chip Kelly insists Nick Foles has been throwing off his back foot too much, but calls the problem "fixable." We'll believe it when we see it. … Ryan Mathews (knee) is expected to miss another week or two. After three consecutive down performances, a statistical blowup could be coming this week against the Falcons. … Marqise Lee (hamstring) has resumed running and could practice Wednesday. … Despite two early drops, Austin Seferian-Jenkins played 61-of-64 offensive snaps Sunday. … Michael Crabtree only played 59 percent of the Week 5 snaps. … Cardinals rookie TE Troy Niklas has a high-ankle sprain. … Justin Hunter led Titans wide receivers by playing 68-of-70 snaps Sunday. … Travis Kelce continues to be a part-time player for the Chiefs. … Tim Wright played on just 19-of-84 snaps against the Bengals despite his breakout. … Torrey Smith hinted on Twitter that off-field issues are playing a role in his on-field struggles. The Saints have their bye this week. … Odell Beckham escaped Week 5 without any setbacks and will see an increased role going forward after playing about 50 percent of the snaps against the Falcons. … Jarrett Boykin's groin injury will sideline him for "a while." Davante Adams will remain the No. 3.
