Dose: The Crosby Show

Ryan Dadoun previews Wednesday's four season-opening games

You have to love what the Penguins did on Friday as they picked up a top-six forward in David Perron, giving up Rob Klinkhammer and their first round pick in 2015.

Perron will likely force Steve Downie down to the third line. The loss of Pascal Dupuis for the rest of the season with a blood clot in his lung, put the Penguins in a tough position but the acquisition of Perron will certainly help.

Pick up Perron in your fantasy pool if he is still available. Meanwhile, the Oilers will continue to re-build for the 10th straight year.

Brad Boyes with his 7th of the season scored the winner just 3:29 into the first period and Nick Bjugstad with his 14th scored on the power play to give the Panthers the victory and move them just a point behind the Rangers for the final playoff spot in the East.

Michal Neuvirth stopped 31 for the Sabres who are 1-6-1 in their last eight games.

CAROLINA 2 PHILADELPHIA 1

Eric Staal’s 10th goal of the season was the winner for the Hurricanes as they rode Cam Ward’s 23 saves for a 2-1 win over the Flyers on Friday.

Brad Malone with his first of the season, opened the scoring and Staal’s second period goal gave the Carolina a 2-0 lead early in the second stanza. Chris VandeVelde cut the lead in half in the third but the Flyers could get no closer.

Steve Mason stopped 24 shots in the loss. Claude Giroux suffered a leg injury in the third period and did not return but the team said he was probable for Saturday’s contest against the Devils. Giroux suffered a cut on the back of his left leg when the skate of Justin Faulk cut him.

The Flyers are 0-3-1 in their last four games on the road after starting an eight game road trip with three straight wins.

Andrew Ebbett and Evgeni Malkin each had a goal and an assist in the win while Chris Kunitz and Christian Ehrhoff also found the back of the net.

Victor Hedman had a goal and an assist to lead the Lightning as Brian Boyle and Alex Killorn also scored.

The Penguins will get a boost in their next game on Saturday versus the Canadiens as David Perron should be in the lineup.

MINNESOTA 3 TORONTO 1

Varlamov stopped 27 shots to corral his seventh win of the season while Ben Scrivens also made 27 saves in regulation and the overtime to go to 6-13-7 for the hapless Oilers.

Daniel Briere opened the scoring with his seventh of the season as Duchene and Tyson Barrie drew the assists. Barrie’s helper was his 20th assist of the season.

Benoit Pouliot scored in the third to tie it. Pouliot had missed the previous 18 games with a broken foot.
