Dodgers place Beckett, Kemp on DL

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed right-handed pitcher Josh Beckett and outfielder Matt Kemp on the 15-day disabled list before Saturday's season-opening 3-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Australia.

Right-hander Chad Billingsley, who is recovering from right elbow surgery, was also placed on the DL. Beckett has a bruised thumb and Kemp is recovering from ankle surgery.

The moves are retroactive to March 19, so they are eligible to return April 3. The Dodgers wrap up the two-game series with the Diamondbacks on Sunday and then play a three-game series at the San Diego Padres March 30-April 2.

Left-fielder Carl Crawford was also inactive because he is on paternity leave.
