Devils' Clowe goes in IR

The New Jersey Devils placed right winger Ryane Clowe on injured reserve and activated Mattias Tedenby on Wednesday, the team announced.

The move is retroactive to Oct. 13 for Clowe, who will be eligible to return Oct. 22. He will miss Thursday night's game against the Ottawa Senators and a home game on Saturday against the New York Rangers.

Clowe has a history of head injuries. He had three concussions last season while playing for the San Jose Sharks and the Rangers.

"(Clowe) got hit with a pretty good elbow in the third period (on Sunday in Winnipeg) and continued to play," Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said. "We just maybe overreacted to it, but when somebody's had a history, we don't want to take any chances."

Clowe, who signed a five-year contract with the Devils this summer as a free agent, has one assist in six games so far this season.
