David Backes takes nasty high-stick, doesn’t miss shift (Video)
The Boston Bruins gave David Backes a five-year contract last summer because he epitomizes everything the Bruins fancy themselves as being: truculent, tough and never giving up despite adversity.
Like, for example, when a member of the Buffalo Sabres smacks you in the face with their stick and costs you a chicklet or two.

That was Zemgus Girgensons on the nasty backswing on Monday night, sending Backes down to the ice with his glove over his mouth.
Girgensons was given a double-minor for high-sticking. There was some concern that Backes could be injured beyond his smile. But he returned to the ice moments later, a big red gash on his chin but ready to compete on the power-play he earned. David Krejci would score during the manpower advantage.
