Dallas Cowboys: Weekly Rewind

Dallas
Dallas

The Dallas Cowboys don’t always win, but they’re always at least interesting. That was the case last week, during the 2016 NFL Draft. The Cowboys drafted Ezekiel Elliott with the 4th overall pick, a move many expected. In the second round, they drafted the talented, but injured, Jaylon Smith, in a move that nobody saw coming.

It was widely speculated that Smith’s injury would not only drop him from being a high 1st-round pick, but likely turn him into a mid-round project. The talent of Smith was never questioned, possible nerve damage has a way of scaring teams away however. Before that bowl-game against Ohio State, analysts and draft experts had Smith as the best defensive player in the draft.

The Cowboys’ team doctor performed the surgery on Smith’s knee, leading many to believe the team has information that other teams didn’t. Jerry Jones confirmed that possibility last week, when he stated Smith wasn’t even a lock to miss the entire year. He will miss the first 12 weeks or so, but will have every chance to come back at the end of they year, especially if the Cowboys have a playoff birth on the line.

Time will tell if the Cowboys got the Smith pick right or not. Did they draft enough defense? How much better does Elliott make the run game? Is Dak Prescott the quarterback of the future? Catch up on all of the Cowboys’ draft picks and stories from the week below.
