Cristiano Ronaldo returns, wastes no time in scoring first goal of the season

Well, that didn’t take long.

Cristiano Ronaldo made his season debut for Real Madrid against Osasuna on Saturday at the Santiago Bernabeu, and he needed all of five minutes and 30 seconds to open his 2016-17 scoring account. Ronaldo can thank Gareth Bale for the easiest of point-blank tap-ins, as CR7 just had to guide the ball into the open net for the 1-0 lead.

The game was Ronaldo’s first action since suffering a knee injury in the Euro 2016 final that brought him to tears and inspired Portugal to capture its first major title (and complete Ronaldo’s impressive resume, of course) with a 1-0 upset victory over host France. The 31-year-old must be fit and feeling good again if he’s back to doing tricks like this.

Real Madrid put the game away with two more first-half goals by Danilo and Sergio Ramos to take a commanding 3-0 halftime lead. The Blancos ended up 5-2 winners to maintain a perfect La Liga record and momentarily sit atop the table with nine points.
