Colts 37, Jaguars 3

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Andrew Luck passed for 260 yards and two touchdowns Sunday to lead Indianapolis in a 37-3 rout of Jacksonville, keeping the Jaguars winless following the AFC South opener for both teams

Riding a wave of momentum following last week's road win at reigning NFC champ San Francisco, the Colts (3-1) picked up where they left off and never let off the gas Sunday against the woeful Jaguars (0-4).

Veteran Reggie Wayne started his 186th straight game -- the second-longest active streak in the NFL -- and was quarterback Andrew Luck's favorite target once again, catching five passes for 100 yards and a touchdown. And in his second game since being traded to the Colts from the Cleveland Browns, Trent Richardson led the NFL's fourth-leading rushing attack (146.3 yards a game) to another strong showing. Indy rushed for 154 yards, the load of which was shouldered by Richardson (20 carries, 60 yards, one TD) and Donald Brown (three rushes, 65 yards).

The Colts stormed out to a 20-3 halftime lead thanks to a one-yard rushing touchdown by Richardson, a 41-yard interception return by cornerback Darius Butler and two Adam Vinatieri field goals of 22 and 46 yards.

The Colts began the third quarter by forcing a 3-and-out by the Jags -- Jacksonville's 16th of the season -- and Luck drove the Colts 67 yards down the field in two plays and 37 seconds, capping it off with a 31-yard TD pass to tight end Coby Fleener. Luck would add a 5-yard TD pass to Wayne late in the third quarter to put the Colts up, 34-3.

Jacksonville's offense, ranked last in the NFL and averaging just 9.3 points a game, was pretty bad yet again, despite the return of starting QB Blaine Gabbert and tight end Marcedes Lewis. The Jags, who have now been outscored 129-31 by their first four opponents, managed only a 53-yard field goal by Josh Scobee in the first two quarters and have now scored a combined eight points (two FGs, one safety) in the first halves of their four games -- the lowest output in the league.

Gabbert, who fell to 5-20 in his career as the Jags' starter, returned after missing two weeks with a deep cut on his throwing hand and struggled mightily. He finished 17-for-32 passing for 179 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions. Gabbert was especially bad in the first half, going 6 of 13 for 39 yards as the Jags tallied just 69 yards of total offense before intermission.

Jacksonville also couldn't take advantage of Indy's 26th-ranked rushing defense, despite the return of Lewis, who is regarded as one of the league's top blocking tight ends. Lewis played just two series before leaving the game with a calf injury --- the same ailment that's kept him out of action since an early August preseason game against the Miami Dolphins.

Maurice Jones-Drew finished with 13 carries for 23 yards, snapping a streak of four straight games of going over 100 yards against the Colts. The 2011 rushing champ has now accumulated just 128 yards and one score in four games. Cecil Short was the Jags' top wideout Sunday with seven catches for 61 yards.

Jags linebacker Paul Posluszny, who entered the game tied for NFL lead with 31 total tackles, had another strong game with eight stops. Robert Mathis led the Colts with five total tackles and four hits on Gabbert.

The Jags have now lost nine straight dating back to last season and have dropped 16 of their last 17. Jacksonville's last win was Nov. 25 in Week 12 of last season when they beat the Tennessee Titans at home, 24-19.

Jacksonville leading receiver Justin Blackmon will return from his four-game suspension Sunday at the St. Louis Rams. That's a welcome sign for the Jags, who had the NFL's 29th-ranked passing attack entering Sunday.

NOTES: Vinatieri capped the scoring with a 28-yard FG with 2:56 left in the game. ... Indy DB Antoine Bethea joined teammate Wayne in adding to his consecutive-starts streak Sunday when Bethea started his 84th straight game, which is the NFL's longest active streak for safeties. Redskins LB London Fletcher has the longest active streak of all active NFL players, regardless of position, at 244 games. ... The Colts lead the all-time series 17-8, although Jacksonville had won three of the last four entering Sunday. ... Colts first-round draft pick Bjorn Werner (LB) suffered a foot injury in the first quarter and did not return, while the Jags' first-round pick, WR Denard Robinson, suffered a hamstring strain just before halftime, and did return.
