College football roundup: Three Alabama players turning pro early

The SportsXchange

National champion Alabama will be losing considerable talent to the NFL.

Alabama offensive tackle D.J. Fluker, running back Eddie Lacy and cornerback Dee Milliner announced Friday that they will forgo their senior seasons and enter the 2013 NFL Draft.

All three project as potential top-40 selections in April.

Milliner is currently's No. 1 cornerback prospect and projected top-10 pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. Lacy is rated as's No. 1 running back and No. 43 prospect overall. Fluker is's No. 4 offensive tackle and borderline first-round pick in the April NFL Draft.

---After working with Geno Smith as West Virginia's quarterbacks coach the past two seasons, Jake Spavital is moving on to Texas A&M, where he will be quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator. At A&M, Spavital will work with Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel.

---As a reward for leading Louisiana-Monroe to a school-record eight wins this past season, head coach Todd Berry has received a new four-year contract, the school announced Friday.

No terms were announced, but presumably he received a raise from his 2012 salary of $250,000 in 2012, the lowest of any FBS head coach included in the USA Today's coaching salaries database.

--- Quarterback Jared Barnett, who started nine games for Iowa State the past two seasons, is one of two players who have decided to leave the Cyclones' football program. Head coach Paul Rhoads announced Friday that Barnett and linebacker C.J. Morgan have decided to transfer to other schools.

Barnett started six games in 2011 and three in 2012, but he lost his starting job to senior Steele Jantz twice in 2012, and freshman Sam Richardson took over as the starter for the final two games of the season.

----Former UCLA and Tulane head coach Bob Toledo has been named the offensive coordinator for San Diego State.

Toledo replaces Andy Ludwig, who joined Gary Andersen at Wisconsin.

-- Ohio State running back Jordan Hall has received a medical redshirt and will be able to play in 2013. Hall played in just three games during the Buckeyes' 12-0 season, but his 218 yards were still third best on the team.
