College football roundup: Bielema to Arkansas; Malzahn to Auburn
Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema is leaving the Badgers for the Arkansas Razorbacks, according to Yahoo! Sports.
He is officially expected to be announced on Tuesday, sources told Yahoo!
Bielema is 68-24 record in seven years with Wisconsin and has led the Badgers to three straight Rose Bowl appearances. They earned another trip to Pasadena with a win over Nebraska in the Big Ten Championship game.
The Badgers haven't said whether Bielema will coach the team in the Rose Bowl.
Arkansas is still struggling after the school fired Bobby Petrino in April amid a scandal, and the Razorbacks struggled to a 4-8 record under John L. Smith.
Bielema, 42, had been head coach at Wisconsin since 2006. Details of his new deal weren't known.
---Former Auburn offensive coordinator and current Arkansas State head coach Gus Malzahn will become Auburn's next head coach.
Malzahn went 9-3 in his one season and secured a second consecutive conference championship. The Red Wolves will play in the GoDaddy.com Bowl against Kent State University.
He came to Auburn in 2009 as Gene Chizik's first offensive coordinator, and thrusted the Tigers from 104th to 16th in total offense. He bolted for Arkansas State after the 2011 season.
---Charlie Strong, who has led University of Louisville to bowl games in each of his three years, reportedly is the front-runner for the University of Tennessee coaching job.
ESPN.com reported Louisville is trying to retain Strong, whose Cardinals are headed to the Sugar Bowl after a 10-2 season in the Big East. Most notably, he was the defensive coordinator at Florida when the Urban Meyer coach the Gators to 2006 and 2008 national championships.
Strong was an assistant coach at three different Southeastern Conference schools and Notre Dame before taking the Louisville job. In his three seasons, the Cardinals are 24-14.
---Cincinnati head football coach Butch Jones is scheduled to meet Tuesday with school president Santa Ono on Tuesday to discuss his future, according to an ESPN.com report.
The Bearcats coach has interviewed at Colorado in the past week, and is expected to decide whether to stay at Cincinnati or head to Colorado.
Colorado has offered Jones a five-year, $13.5 million contract, according to the Denver Post. Jones led Cincinnati to a 9-3 record this season, which put them in a four-way tie for the Big East title.
