City of Chicago takes a trolling delight in nemesis Aaron Rodgers' breakup

In 2017, if you can’t beat ’em, troll ’em.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has tortured the Chicago Bears through the years. In 18 games against Chicago, Rodgers has 38 touchdowns and nine interceptions. The Packers are 14-4 in those games. Rodgers took over for Brett Favre after Favre had Chicago’s number for 16 seasons, and Rodgers has destroyed the Bears with no end in sight. Favre and Rodgers would be the two best quarterbacks in Bears history, and it’s not really close. And the Bears have had to deal with those guys for a quarter century and counting.

So when news broke that Rodgers and actress Olivia Munn split up, Chicago seemed to take plenty of enjoyment in Rodgers being miserable for once.

The Chicago Tribune wrote about the breakup and tweeted about Olivia Munn “and boyfriend” breaking up, without naming two-time NFL MVP Rodgers. That’s pretty funny.

And then the Bears tweeted some #FridayFeeling, and maybe this has nothing to do with Rodgers’ bad news, but if not it’s a really, really crazy coincidence.

Here’s the thing: Yes, it’s petty, but if you’ve never lived in that area you really don’t understand the Bears-Packers rivalry. It’s akin to a great college rivalry, and probably better. Keep your Baltimore Ravens-Pittsburgh Steelers or Dallas Cowboys-Washington Redskins or whatever else; Packers-Bears is the No. 1 NFL rivalry and if anything can even come close it’s Packers-Vikings. Or Vikings-Bears.

To an outsider, this looks pretty small of Chicago to pile on when a guy has broken up with his girlfriend (come on, wasn’t everyone there supposed to be happy now that the Chicago Cubs finally won?). But really, it’s just a normal day in the NFL’s best rivalry.
