Chris Johnson appreciative of Tennessee tenure
Running back Chris Johnson is ready to move on from his time spent with the Titans.
Johnson spent six seasons in Tennessee and ran for a combined 7,965 yards and 50 touchdowns. His most productive season came in 2009, in his second NFL season, when he ran for 2,006 yards and 14 touchdowns, both of which are career bests for him in a single season.
One of the main reasons he was released Friday was due to the $8 million salary he was set to earn in 2014. Johnson released a statement thanking those in the Titans organization.
“I’d like to thank all of my teammates, the fans, the staff and the coaches who have supported me throughout my journey with the Titans,” Johnson said. “I have grown so much as an individual and as teammate over the past few years, and I am excited about the opportunity to bring my experience and talents to a new organization. I’m looking forward to the next chapter and can’t wait to contribute to my new team.”
Though Johnson's production began to dwindle in recent years, he's still capable of being a productive NFL running back.
There are plenty of teams that could use him, including the Jets, Giants and Colts. One team to look out for could be the Rams, given that Jeff Fisher's the head coach. Fisher coached Johnson in Tennessee from 2008-2010.
At the right price, Johnson would be quite the compliment to Zac Stacy in the Rams' backfield.
