Chiefs sign ex-Vikings S Abdullah
Husain Abdullah, whose devotion to Islam prompted him to sit out last season, will attempt a comeback this year with the Kansas City Chiefs.
The 27-year-old safety signed as a free agent Monday, multiple media outlets reported.
Abdullah spent four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings after he signed as an undrafted free agent out of Washington State in 2008. According to NFL.com, he turned down a contract for last season, instead spending the year speaking at mosques around the United States prior to making a pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia.
He was accompanied on the religious journey by his brother, former Arizona Cardinals defensive back Hamza Abdullah, 29.
Husain Abdullah started 15 games for the Vikings in 2010, then nine games in 2011, but he sustained numerous concussions, NFL.com reported. In his 44 career games, Abdullah has four interceptions, two sacks and 162 tackles.
