Chiefs sign S Elam

Safety Abram Elam signed with the Chiefs. Terms were not disclosed.

The seventh-year veteran played for the Cowboys in 2011 and has played in 92 career games, recording 365 tackles (271 solo), 5.0 sacks (-39.0 yards) and three interceptions.

Elam was originally an undrafted free agent out of Kent State signed by the Dolphins in 2005.

The Chiefs were searching for safety depth with Eric Berry and Kendrick Lewis recovering from 2011 injuries. Veteran cornerback Travis Daniels has been getting practice time at free safety, with multiple players practicing at the strong safety spot.
