Champions League Best XI - Top players of Matchday 3

Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund impressed Yahoo's global football editors the most during Champions League Matchday 3, as both clubs landed two players in the Yahoo Best XI.

Midfielder Luka Modric and striker Karim Benzema earned Best XI spots with their performances in Real Madrid's convincing 3-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield. Modric helped control the middle of the park and Benzema scored twice in 11 minutes in the first half as the defending champions built a comfortable 3-0 halftime lead.

Midfielder Marco Reus and striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang stood out in Borussia Dortmund's impressive 4-0 victory over Galatasaray in Istanbul. Reus was a force right from the start, setting up the first of Aubameyang's two goals in the sixth minute and then scoring with a brilliant 30-yard chip in the 41st. Aubameyang also scored in the 18th minute.

Other highlights of the Best XI for Champions League Matchday 3:

• Luiz Adriano's five goals for Shakhtar Donetsk – The Brazilian striker tied Lionel Messi's record for most goals in a Champions League game in Shakhtar's 7-0 rout of BATE Borisov. His four goals in 17 minutes is also a new Champions League record.

• Roberto's match-preserving save for Olympiakos – The Spaniard pushed away Alvaro Morata's late attempt off the bar to preserve a 1-0 win over Juventus.

• Kieran Gibbs' late equalizer for Arsenal – The left back's well-taken volley in the 89th minute sparked the Gunners to a dramatic 2-1 win over Anderlecht.
