CBK Roundup: Doolin quits USF, Final Four ring found to be stolen
Less than a month into the start of his senior season, San Francisco point guard Cody Doolin left the team for personal reasons, the university announced.
Doolin, who started 103 games during his career, averaged 13 points and 7.0 assists in four games this season. He scored a career-high 33 points against Nevada on Nov. 15.
His last game was a 93-90 overtime loss to Idaho State on Nov. 18.
"I respect Cody's decision to devote more time to other matters in his life that will require his attention away from basketball," Dons coach Rex Walters said in a statement. "We will miss him and he will always be a USF Don."
Doolin is still at USF and is expected to graduate in the spring with a finance degree, the school said.
---A Louisville Final Four ring from 2012 with the name and number of Cardinals forward Chane Behanan was taken off a sports memorabilia site.
Auction house Grey Flannel said it had been informed by Behanan's mother that the ring had been stolen.
It was unknown who submitted the ring for auction and whether it was legitimate. Three bids had been placed on the ring, with the highest bid more than $600 when the auction was cancelled.
The size-11 ring was in mint condition and engraved with Behanan's name, number, a Big East championship logo and the Cardinals' 2011-12 record. Louisville lost to eventual champion Kentucky in the 2012 Final Four.
Earlier this month, Oregon players Dominic Artis and Ben Carter were suspended nine games for selling their shoes on eBay. The sale of memorabilia was in part responsible for an Ohio State bowl ban, sanctions and the dismissal of former coach Jim Tressel.
Behanan was suspended indefinitely at the start of the current season for an undisclosed violation of team rules and school policy. He returned after missing one regular-season game and is averaging 8.6 points and 6.2 rebounds.
