Cavaliers sign Bynum to deal
The Cleveland Cavaliers announced Friday that they signed center Andrew Bynum to a contract.
The Cavaliers did not release the terms of the deal, but multiple media reports have indicated that the deal is for two years and worth $24 million.
Bynum, 25, did not play a single game for the Philadelphia 76ers last season because of problems with his knees that required surgery.
"We are very happy to welcome Andrew to Cleveland and the Cavaliers organization," general manager Chris Grant said in a statement. "His talent, size and experience clearly have the potential to very positively impact our team. He has the ability to strengthen the foundation we are creating and continue to be very excited about. At the same time, we are fully aware of where he is in his journey to get back on the court and will provide every resource possible to support and enhance this process."
Bynum's best season was 2011-12 with the Los Angeles Lakers, when he averaged 18.7 points and 11.8 rebounds.
Last year, Bynum was traded to the 76ers as part of a four-team deal that sent Dwight Howard to the Lakers.
Bynum was selected by the Lakers 10th overall in the 2005 draft. In seven seasons, he is averaging 11.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.6 blocks in 26.0 minutes per game.
Also, the Cavaliers waived forward Kevin Jones and guard Chris Quinn.
Last season, Jones averaged 3.0 points and 2.4 rebounds in 10.5 minutes over 32 games. Quinn averaged 1.4 points and 1.3 assists in 11.3 minutes over seven games.
