Carter-Williams, McLemore win rookie awards

The SportsXchange

For the first time since April 1997, the NBA Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month award went to a Philadelphia 76er.

Guard Michael Carter-Williams received the honor for October and November, a combined honor as the NBA season started the final days of October. The last 76er to receive a monthly rookie award was Allen Iverson.

Over his first 13 games as a pro, Carter-Williams averaged 17.2 points, 7.2 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 2.9 steals.

Carter-Williams, 22, was selected 11th overall in this year's draft out of Syracuse.

The Western Conference Rookie of the Month award went to Sacramento Kings guard Ben McLemore. In 14 games, McLemore averaged 9.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.9 assists. The 20-year-old led Western Conference rookies in scoring, 3-point field-goal percentage (.350), free-throw percentage (.810) and minutes per game (22.8).

McLemore, the seventh overall pick in the 2013 draft out of Kansas, was the first Sacramento recipient of the award since guard Isaiah Thomas in March 2012.
