Yahoo Daily Fantasy:

Byrd won't report to Bills training camp

The SportsXchange

Start the holdout clock, Buffalo Bills safety Jairus Byrd has no plans to report to training camp this weekend at St. John Fisher College.

Byrd is in a contract standoff with the Bills, who used the franchise tag to retain the talented defensive back. The one-year salary of $6.916 million guaranteed the Bills would retain Byrd, but the two sides remain far apart on his value.

Since missing the July 15 deadline for long-term agreements for franchised players, Byrd can only play under the terms of the one-year deal..

The market for safeties went up when Dashon Goldson scored a $40 million deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in free agency.

Byrd can be fined for missing training camp workouts.

Buffalo has reason to fret, and not just because Byrd is losing valuable reps in new defensive coordinator Mike Pettine's system. Without Byrd, the Bills struggles against the pass could be more profound.
